SSG Speaks – SSG Nocturnal
This time on SSG Speaks, we head into the darkest hours to interview our own rare, nocturnal animal Wes. He works second shift so we may not see a lot of him, but it’s always a good time when Nocturnal joins the party. He’s also part of the crew that’s a nice, respectable age as opposed to all these damn kids around here. Get off our lawns already, will ya’? Anyways, read on to get to know a little bit more about our night-owl Virginian.
How did you find SSG?
I was just searching the internet for Halo/Gaming communities and ran across the SSG Rhys memorial video. I thought to myself that this is the kind of place that I’m looking for. A community of friends that seem more like family and…oh yeah, they play video games too.
What made you want to join us?
The whole “good game” philosophy. I wish to be judged on me as a person/friend rather than my ability to play games. Also because SSG is a safe haven where people feel free to discuss anything without ridicule and people are eager to help each other with any RL problems they may be dealing with. My first interactions with SSG members were unbelievably inviting.
How has your gaming experience changed since you joined SSG?
I really have enjoyed playing multiplayer games since I joined. Y’all know what it’s like when everyone you’re playing with/against are randoms.
Yes indeed. May we never return to the days of randoms. What is the first game you remember playing?
I guess I’ll be showing my age here a bit. Our dad bought my brother and I a Pong console for Christmas one year. We upgraded that to an Atari a few years later but my first love of video games came from The Legend of Zelda on the NES.
What is the most memorable moment in any video game (historical or current) for you?
Beating The Legend of Zelda for the first time or getting the achievement for beating Halo Reach on the hardest setting solo (anyone who has played with me may not believe I actually accomplished that).
Props to you man. I didn’t even attempt that solo legendary run. Do you have a favorite gaming moment with SSG?
Not really. Every time I have played with my fellow SSGers, it is memorable and usually something hilariously epic happens.
In ten words or less, what does SSG mean to you?
SSG keeps me from needing a Psychiatrist.
Ha. As in we’re crazy enough to remind you of how sane you are? As a family man, do you get to game with your family at all? If so, what are your favorite games to play with them and why?
Nope! I’m on my own.
Bummer. Well, at least you don’t have to fight for time with your console. What do you do when you’re not gaming?
A few fun facts about me are: I live in Virginia and have all my life. I met my wife at a Community College where I received an associates degree in mechanical engineering. I have worked for UPS since I was 18. (30 yrs). I drove the “Brown Truck” for 14 yrs and had my fill of that and now I work in the Hub. I have 2 kids; 20 and 24 years old and 3 dogs. I am part of the audio/visual team at my church and operate the mixing board for the service and the praise team/band.
When I’m not gaming….well….during the week I pretty much work, sleep, eat, and TV/video games. Because of my work schedule/hours my free time is from 4-7am. Not much else to do at that time. My wife (Pam) leaves the house for work (nurse) at around 4am and gets home about the time I head off to my work. On the weekends we try to do stuff together since we just pass in the doorway during the week.
That’s rough schedule. But you’re probably used to it after so many years. What’s your favorite pastime besides gaming?
I watch a lot of TV. I like to fish when the opportunity presents itself, hangout with friends, work on cars and tinker with things around the house but mostly I just watch a lot of TV.
I’m familiar with watching too much TV. Too familiar. What are your three favorite books or three favorite movies & why?
I have a lot of books but can’t seem to find the time or motivation to read them. My favorite movies are probably: LOTR trilogy, Batman Begins, and Saving Private Ryan.
Boxers or briefs?
Boxers…boys gotta breathe!
Bacon or ham?
Duh….Bacon
Seriously. Why is ham even an option? Favorite food?
Anything Mexican or Seafood
Star Wars, Serenity, or Star Trek?
Yes please! Seriously they all have their place. I saw the original Star Wars when it came out in 1977 at a drive-in theater near our house from the back of a station wagon (just think: Vacation’s the family truckster except a burnt orange color). I believe me and my brother both had our pajamas on……you know, the kind with the feet in them.
Awesome. I still remember seeing Star Wars for the first time too. What celebrity do you have a crush on?
That’s a toss up between Catherine Zeta-Jones and Kelly Preston.
Why Nocturnal for your Gamer Tag?
I am Nocturnal.
Entirely too logical. And what is your favorite nocturnal animal?
Possum. It’s cool how they “play dead.” I also like how my headlights reflect off of their eyes.
What’s you dream job?
At this point in my life, I don’t want ANY job. I want to retire!
Now that’s smart thinking. If you had one day left to live, what would you do / where would you go / who would you be with?
I’d probably just sit around being depressed that I only have one day to live.
Superpower of choice? And the fatal weakness or character flaw that goes along with said superpower?
Invisibility would be awesome. The drawback would be that when people can see me I am a hideously malformed mutant.
If you had to pull an interstellar heist to save the planet or something, what spacecraft would you use for your getaway vehicle? Which three Knights would you pick for your team & why?
Millennium Falcon. Someone has to fix the darn thing when it breaks down so I’d need WatchTower. I’ll definitely need a Wookiee for obvious reasons, and lastly I’ll need someone to look at besides them two so I’ll need DC. She also has a good k/d ratio. ; )
Good choices. Well, that’s a wrap on another SSG Speaks. Thanks for answering some questions for us, Noc. Until next time, see you starside.
